Lithium Disilicate, such as brands like Ivoclar's IPS e.Max or GC LiSi, are an all glass-ceramic material that produce impressive results due to its natural-looking tooth coloring and excellent light-optical properties. While not as strong and versatile as zirconia, lithium disilicate can be hard to surpass in esthetics when used in the right situations. This is the go-to material for veneers and other bonded restorations.
Zirconia is still one of the most popular materials for dental restorations. With all of the material advancements of zirconia over the past decade, the newest advancement provides multilayered materials that combine both tremendous strength and highly esthetic color and translucency. With Ivolar e.Max Zircad or the Noritake Katana lines, we have noticed impressive results with our anterior, lifelike restorations.
Provisional restorations (PMMA) crowns, bridges and implants can be benefit patients in a variety of ways. They can be invaluable for testing out esthetic and occlusal changes before they are incorporated in the definitive restorations. This is the step to construct and verify all aspects of a restoration so that the final result is 100% predictable and satisfactory especially in units 3 or more. Occasionally, a provisional restoration may be used to provide a coronal build up for isolation purposes during endodontic treatment.
During the initial custom shading in our lab, our technicians take a series of photos, create a color shade palette especially for them and draw diagrams to mimic a flawless restoration. Our technicians will also meet with our design team to consult if any changes to material or input is needed. Most times, we will have the patient return for a verification before the case is delivered to ensure a perfect match and if needed make a quick adjustment.
Although we highly recommend to have patients come to our lab, we realize that is not always possible. We offer custom shading from legible photos.
To achieve a custom shade from a photo, we would need a clear photo of: patient's smiling, stump shade, and various shade tabs (that can be seen in the photo). Please make sure that for the best results, the clearer the picture, the better the outcome.

We understand that visual is much easier for many, especially when it comes to change. By completing a DWU before discussing the proposed treatment plan with the patient, the clinician can confirm that the plan is achievable. It is used as a diagnostic aid to establish the desired aesthetic changes (tooth position, alignment, inclination, proportion and morphology) and develop or confirm the occlusal scheme and function.
We can also provide you with screenshots, printed models, prep guides and putty matrix to allow you and your staff more time for the appointments.
